Our Grout Sealing in Milford, NJ Brought This Client's Bathroom Back to Life
January 13, 2021
Unknown to most homeowners, grout is as significant to the structure of a hard surface as every other element involved in its construction. Grout secures the tiles together and solidifies them, providing hard surfaces with the necessary strength to withstand the wear and tear that happens over time. Even though wearing out grout isn't easy, one of its limitations is porosity. Its porous structure allows external agents to seep into it, resulting in stains and deterioration. Fortunately, a Milford Grout Sealing
service is all it takes to prevent grout damage long-term.
We recently received a call from a Milford resident. After living in his lovely home for two years, he began to notice changes in the appearance of the grout in his master bathroom. He first spotted a few dingy grout lines in the shower area. At the time, he decided he would clean the grout when he had time to spare. Unfortunately, that time never came. His job kept him busy, and the grout lines remained unattended. The state of the grout worsened as time passed. It wasn't until he observed that the appearance of the grout on the bathroom floor had also changed that he realized he needed professional help.
He went online and searched for a reputable company that could help him solve the problem. He found Sir Grout Bucks PA and West NJ in the top search results. Watching a few video testimonials and browsing the picture gallery was all he needed to determine we were professionals in the field. Feeling confident in our ability, he called to request a free evaluation and a quote.
We visited the client's home on the scheduled date to perform the assessment. The grout lines stood out to us as soon as we walked into the bathroom. The damage on the bathroom floor wasn't severe, but the grout in the shower floor was on the verge of falling apart. After speaking to the customer, we learned that none of the surfaces in the bathroom had received proper maintenance. That explained the disparity between the state of the grout lines in the bathroom and the shower.
Shower areas are in constant contact with water. As such, their grout lines tend to deteriorate faster than those of other surfaces in a home. Every time the client took a shower, water seeped into the grout and weakened its structure. That opened up the grout's pores to other substances like dirt and soap. Combined with water, these external agents can cause stains, discoloration, and mold growth.
Luckily, the damage was still reversible. We assured the client that we could restore the grout lines in his bathroom with a grout cleaning and sealing procedure. We would also repair the grout in the shower before coating the entirety of the bathroom's grout lines with ColorSeal. The client agreed to the proposal and scheduled an appointment for later in the week.
On the day of the job, we went back to the client's home to perform the service. We began with a thorough cleaning of the shower area. To do this, we soaked the shower's surfaces with a pH-neutral cleaner that is safe for tile and grout. Our cleaner also contains sanitizing properties that help reduce mold and mildew. After most of the grime came loose, we extracted the remaining dirt using a high-speed scrubber. To finish, we sanitized the shower floor with a steam cleaner to eliminate any trace of mold. The cleaning procedure revealed that some of the grout lines in the shower had cracks. We scraped them out and re-grouted the areas using our proprietary grout mix.
After performing the same cleaning procedure on the bathroom floor, we sealed the grout lines on every surface with ColorSeal. This product is an acrylic-based sealant that shuts off the grout's pores, protecting it against water, stains, dirt, soap, mold, and mildew. It also facilitates maintenance and comes in a variety of colors. The client chose white to give the bathroom a cleaner appearance.
The homeowner loved the outcome. He said he didn't know his bathroom could look as clean as it did, and complimented us for our hard work. He thanked us and said that he would recommend our services to his friends and family.
To keep the bathroom in its current state, we gave the homeowner some care tips before we left. We first recommended cleaning the bathroom's surfaces once a week using a dry mop and a pH-neutral cleaner like Sir Grout's Natural Hard Surface Cleaner
. While it's true that the grout lines in the client's bathroom will be more resilient thanks to ColorSeal, it's still necessary to clean them regularly to preserve their color. We also suggested wiping away the excess moisture after every shower. This practice helps avoid severe water damage and mold growth. The client thanked us for the tips and promised he would regularly clean the bathroom moving forward.
